Article Summary:

That Big Proposal is Due but My Street’s Not Plowed!!!
How Can I Work efficiently From Home?

Did you run into this or a similar problem over the last few weeks?  Could’t get to the office and the ol’ VPN or Go-to-My-PC just wasn’t cutting it?  Or maybe you’re really old school and had NO option to work remotely?  There are very good and cost effective options for being productive from home (and we mean working just like you do in the office using all the same applications – not just checking email.)

  • We can install a terminal server that will let your staff access all your data and applications as if they were in the office and with a very similar user experience/speed/responsiveness – much better than VPN. With terminal server  it is easy to control user access and privileges.  BEI uses terminal services for its employees when they are not in the office. The price for this starts at about $4,000 for hardware, software and installation services (this price range would provide remote connectivity for 10-20 people, depending on their work load.)
  • If you have a Small Business Server, you can be setup for Remote Web Workplace, which lets you remotely work on your desktop at the office.
  • A SharePoint intranet site, either on your server or online, lets you share documents and collaborate with ease.

Windows 7 Tip of the Month - Aero Peek for Quick Access to Your Desktop

(Editor’s Note: As more and more of our clients are running Windows 7 we thought this would be a helpful feature to add each month.)

Most of us have more and more going on on our computer screens. Sometimes you need to see your desktop quickly, and Aero Peak is a great way to do it. There is a small rectangle in the lower right hand corner of the task bar and when you click on it your desktop will appear.

The keyboard shortcut Windows Key + Space performs the same function. Clicking on it again (or using the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + Space again) will return all your windows. You’ll also still have all your programs that are running visible on the task bar, so you can manually select which ones you’d like to see again if you prefer.

Note the Windows Key is usually found on the bottom left of your keyboard and looks like this:

Viewing .tif Files

We often receive documents as .tif files – typically faxes or scanned documents. It can be confusing, because you see the first page and its not always obvious how to view the subsequent pages. There’s a small arrow at the bottom that will help you advance through the pages. You can use the other tools to zoom in, center the image, rotate the image, or close the file.

Using Field Codes to Insert Dates in Word 2007

Word will automatically insert the date a document was created, printed or last saved (and more, but that’s all we’re getting into right now!) This can be very handy to make sure you know what version of a document you are dealing with. To do this:

Insert > Quick Parts (in the Text Group) > Field

FieldCodes

After selecting Field, you’ll see this:

FieldCategories

Select Date and Time as your category, and the choose the type of information that you would like to display.

HITECH Presentation to Practice Management Association of Northern Virginia - March 11, 2010

For Practice Managers and Physicians: If you have not installed an EHR yet, you probably will soon. If you already have an EHR, you can still be eligible for Government payments.  The HITECH Act offers tens of thousands of dollars for EHR implementation.  But there are lots of questions – What are the details of the program? Am I eligible? What do I have to do to get the money?  How do I apply for it? BEI will address these issues at the luncheon seminar. If you are interested in attending, please contact Jonathan Krasner, jonathan.krasner@beinetworks.com, 703-528-8300 x105.

BEI Client Profile: Intelligent Office of Alexandria

(Note: we'll be profiling a different client each month in the BE Eye.)

One of BEI’s newest clients, Intelligent Office of Alexandria can help you get the most out of your communication equipment with their Live Receptionist Service - all the benefits of having a full time receptionist without the costs or inconveniences that come from adding a staff member.

Intelligent Office receptionists act as staff members for their clients.  Clients train them on their telephone procedures – including how they want the phones answered, who on the staff receives which phone calls, what frequently asked questions can be answered and screened out, and how calls should be announced and routed.  Intelligent Office also offers higher value-added services, including scheduling and estimating, order-taking and payment processing, event registrations, and more.  Their services also work well as a backup receptionist service, for when your full-time receptionist is out for any reason.  It’s like having your executive receptionist, available to you and all your staff, at a fraction of the cost of a full time receptionist.

Intelligent Office’s state-of-the-art telephony equipment enables them to route all calls to you seamlessly, wherever you are.  Your caller will think the receptionist they speak to is a member of your staff, sitting in your office.  Current clients of Intelligent Office include law firms, associations, government contractors, moving and storage companies, consultants, and more.  BEI is thrilled to have Intelligent Office as a client, and we hope you take advantage of their services to enhance your communications plan.  You can contact them at 703-224-8800 or www.intelligentoffice.com

BEI Customer Satisfaction Surveys - win an Apple iPOD Touch
We want to do a great job for our customers, so we send out a survey as each service ticket is closed, asking for feedback. We don't always get them back, and we understand - we're all busy. But, because we really need this information (we use your feedback to improve our processes, give feedback to employees, and part of our staff's compensation is based on it) we decided to have a quarterly drawing for an Apple iPOD Touch. Every time you fill out a survey your name is entered in the drawing, so your odds improve as you give us more feedback. We'll announce this quarter's winner in the April '10 BE Eye.

If you have any questions or comments about the surveys, contact Kurt Duesterdick at 703-528-8300 x101 or kurt.duesterdick@beinetworks.com.
