BackgroundBEI is a privately owned business that has been providing IT support to companies throughout the Washington DC metro area since 1987. BEI continues to be a leading provider of computer network design, installation, support, maintenance and procurement services to hundreds of clients throughout metropolitan Washington D.C. We are focused on Microsoft-based networks as well as Citrix remote access and other leading LAN/WAN technologies.
BEI was founded by David Schulman, a northern Virginia entrepreneur to provide business process reengineering and database development services to the business and association marketplace. Responding to customer demand, Dave transformed BEI into a leading-edge Novell network integration services company. Over the years, BEI continued to increase its expertise, certifications and partnerships incorporating Microsoft networking, Citrix remote hosting products, network integrity and security technologies. In July, 2003, Dave sold BEI to Ellen and Mike Jennings in order to focus on launching a physician practice management and electronic medical record software and services company.
Today BEI is a technology company that is focused on people - our customers and our employees are both critically important to our business. Ellen Jennings, Chief Executive OfficerEllen became CEO of BEI in 2003 after acquiring the company from the founding owners. Her focus is on BEI’s overall business strategy and marketing and sales operations. She has over twenty years experience in the telecommunications and information technology industries, including AT&T Corporation, Avatar Technologies (a computer hardware manufacturer), Netrix Corporation (a telecommunications manufacturer) and in a consulting role for numerous high tech companies. Ellen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Mike Jennings, PresidentMike became President of BEI in 2003 upon its acquisition by he and his wife, Ellen, and is focused on BEI’s day-to-day technical and administrative functions. Prior to BEI Mike spent over 20 years in the telecommunications equipment business, most recently as General Manager of the Pulsecom subsidiary of Fortune 500 electronics manufacturer Hubbell, Inc. Before spending 16 years at Pulsecom Mike was employed by Western Electric/AT&T Network Systems. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering: Administration from Stanford University.
Jake Hovermale, Chief Technical Officer
Jake came to BEI from landscape architecture, during which time he focused on the technology-related aspects of the field. In addition to supporting the design studios at the University of Maryland, Jake taught CAD classes to local architects and assisted with summer technology seminars at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He was an Assistant Designer at Lee & Liu Associates in Washington, D.C., where he transitioned from landscape architecture to designing and building the firm’s technology infrastructure. Since joining BEI in 1998, Jake has steadily taken on more responsibility and is now responsible for evaluating products and technology for use in our clients' networks. He is also heavily involved with our clients in defining network architectures that mesh with their business requirements, and as an external “Chief Technology Officer” to help with planning the evolution of their networks. Jake graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture.
Devin Leshin, Client Services Manager
Devin joined BEI in early 2006, taking over responsibility for BEI’s day-to-day operations and serving as the main interface between clients and BEI Network Engineers. Devin most recently was a Customer Support Representative with VeriSign, Inc., where he analyzed customer issues, supported a wide variety of client server environments, ecommerce applications, internet connectivity and database issues and contributed to the development of their knowledge base. He also has a background in banquet management, which serves BEI well as he coordinates client issues and BEI’s staff! Devin attended North Carolina State University and Miami University of Ohio, majoring in Political Science.
Ken Howard, Manager Healthcare Services
Ken has an extensive background in IT-related healthcare services. Most recently he was the founder and owner of MediNet Solutions, LLC, an IT-focused technology company dedicated to supporting medical practices. In late 2006 MediNet merged with BEI to form BEI’s Healthcare Services Group. Ken has worked with a wide variety of Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record software vendors, giving him a unique perspective and the ability to help clients design systems that fit their unique needs. He is familiar with all technology-related aspects of a healthcare practice, ranging from end user issues to application vendors and network infrastructure. Ken attended George Mason University, focusing on Business Administration and Information Systems.
Elisha Ehnes, Director, Business Development
Elisha joined BEI in the spring of 2008 after serving as Director of Sales & Marketing at Mouse on House http://www.mouseonhouse.com. She introduced this online marketing tool to the DC area, built their presence to cover seven states and was very instrumental in the company’s success in the real estate market. Elisha is a passionate people-person and networker and has a vast network of contacts – both business and personal.
She has a background in speech pathology and education. Elisha graduated from Ohio State University and is a ardent Buckeye fan.
Suki Hovermale,
Manager, Finance & Administration Suki joined BEI in 1997 after working in the accounting department of a major moving and storage company. She started with BEI in our accounting department. Since that time Suki has steadily took on additional responsibilities, including human resources, office management, contract administration, purchasing and service management. In 2006 those responsibilities were divided between Suki and Devin Leshin so that Suki could focus on accounting issues and her family.
