- Using the function above results in a number such as 0.758176301.
- If you need a number between 1 and 10 you can use RAND()*10, between 10 and 100 use RAND()*100 and so on.
- To get a random number between two numbers (not an integer - for integers see below) use the formula =RAND()*(x-y)+y where x is the top number and y is the bottom number.
- You can also use the RANDBETWEEN(bottom, top) function which will yield an integer between (and including) the two numbers. (This is what we use for our quarterly survey drawings.)
- Another common use of this function is to fill a spreadsheet with numbers. To do this just insert the random function generator in a cell and then copy it to the rest of the desired cells as shown below.

Linkedin Tips
| Many of us have a Linkedin profile. Here are a few easy things you can do to make Linkedin more useful. |
 |
- Add a photo! Having a photo on your Linkedin profile makes you MUCH easier to spot, adds credibility and helps "complete" your profile. This is very easy - see the directions here.
- Connect your blog - many of us write a blog - you might as well add it to your Linkedin Profile to increase the visibility of your blog and give your profile more interest and credibility.
- Hide updates from a connection - let's face it, you may not want to know the latest news from every single one of your contacts. To hide updates:
- Go to the "All Updates" section of your Linkedin homepage.
- Move your cursor over a connection's update and click the Hide link that appears.
- Unhide updates from a connection - maybe you got carried away with the tip above! From your homepage:
- Go to the All Updates area on your Linkedin homepage.
- From the More tab's dropdown menu (on the same line as All Updates), select Hidden.
- Click the Hidden tab and then click Show updates. You see all the contacts whose updates have been hidden and you will be able to selectively update them.
For more tips and to search on help topics go to Linkedin's Help Center.

Save your OUTLOOK contacts to a spreadsheet
OUTLOOK is great, but maybe you want to share your contacts with someone else, or print out a list of your contacts for easy reference. (Maybe while you're on vacation in that exotic spot without reliable internet access?) Here's how to do it:
- File > Options > Advanced > Export (as shown below)

- Select "Export to a file"

- Now you can choose your file format, Excel is the easiest to work with.

- You then need to specify what folder you want to export - this will generally be called "Contacts"

- The next and final step is determining where you want to store this new Excel file.

Microsoft Upcoming Releases - Windows 8 and Office 2013 |

 |
Windows 8
Windows 8 will be officially released on October 26. Many of us at BEI are running it and getting used to the new interface. It is specifically designed with touch screens in mind. Stay tuned for more information as we evaluate Windows 8 as it performs in different client scenarios.
Office 2013
The new version of Office is tightly integrated with Microsoft's cloud-offerings. With Office 2013 you'll be able to "stream" Office to another computer, using it while you are there but not installing a permanent copy of Office and save documents to Microsoft's SkyDrive for easy access and sharing. It will only run on Windows 7 and Windows 8. We expect that Office 2013 will be released toward the end of 2012.

Customer Service Survey and 2nd Quarter 2012 Winner
|

 |
We want to do a great job for our customers, so we send out a survey as each service ticket is closed, asking for feedback. We don't always get them back, and we understand - we're all busy. But, because we really need this information (we use your feedback to improve our processes, give feedback to employees, and part of our staff's compensation is based on it) we have a quarterly drawing. Every time you fill out a survey your name is entered in the drawing, so your odds improve as you give us more feedback.
This quarter's winner is Matt Pavlak of Catapult Consulting. Matt will win a $200 American Express Gift Card. Catapult Consulting is a BEI managed services client. If you have any questions or comments about the surveys, contact Ashley Adair at 703-528-8300 x101 or ashley.adair@beinetworks.com.
