We participate in the Business Bank’s Annual Golf Tournament each year and this year were ably represented by Ryan McDonnell and Nick Zahra. They had a great time and enjoyed the day!

Taste of Reston Festival – June 15, 16 & 17

April 2012: BEI is very active with the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and one event we especially love is the Taste of Reston – an annual festival that celebrates good food, community and entertainment. There is something for everyone – food from wonderful restaurants, live entertainment, a carnival with rides, and a family fun zone with lots of kid-friendly entertainment.

BEI will be staffing the beer booth on Friday night, so please come by and we’d love to serve you!

BEI’s 25th Anniversary!

February, 2012: Just how long ago was 1987? Well, consider these facts and historical notes:

• The average price of gas in the United States was $0.96/gallon.
• Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who loves me)” was #1 and “La Bamba” by Los Lobos was #2
• The big scandals of the year were Iran Contra, Gary Hart and Jim Baker
• On Black Monday (October 19, 1987) the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 508 points to 1739 (almost 23%). Yesterday’s close (2/28/2012) was 13,005.
• MS-DOS 3.3 was released
• The Mac SE was introduced at $2,900
• IBM introduced the PS/2 which ranged in price from $2,595 to $10,895

BEI’s 25th Anniversary!

Hard to believe – this is our 25th year serving the Metro DC business community. We’re not sure yet what this celebration will entail, but plans are in the works. This is also the 30th anniversary for the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and we will be participating in that celebration also.

A successful “Movember”

Thanks to all who supported “Movember” – supporting a ’stache and helping to change the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. The Sarsaparilla Staches, captained by BEI Network Engineer Joe Mettler, raised over $2,000!

Just for Fun (and for eating): BING Recipes

Many of us are spending more time scouring the internet for recipes and less time with cookbook in hand. We search for recipes that include ingredients we would like to include (sometimes just a combination of what we think would be good and other times the only ingredients in the refrigerator!) We also look for videos that will help us figure out a cooking technique or maybe a picture of what we are trying to accomplish! Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, has a very cool recipe site that searches across multiple recipe sites (Allrecipes, FoodNetwork, Bettycrocker, Epicurious and more) for recipes, images, and videos.

As an example, look at this search for something to make with that leftover turkey! The search is for Turkey and Rice, but also specifies 4 stars and above (why not!), Quick/Easy and Make-Ahead. Check out some of the recipe results:

Tyson’s Corner Microsoft Store Now Open!

Microsoft opened their 14th Microsoft retail store in Tyson’s Corner Center on November 17. The festivities included Cal Ripken, Joe Jonas and lots of giveaways.

BEI will be hosting a Friends and Family Night on December 15. Get a personal tour of the store, relax and have a snack in the private theater space! We’ll have discount coupons for everyone and over 25 exciting raffle items.

Microsoft Store Opening in Tyson’s Corner Center November 17

Microsoft has announced that they will be opening their 14th Microsoft retail store in Tyson’s Corner Center on November 17. The store features a theater that is available for meetings and seminars – BEI is hopeful of hosting a seminar soon after the store opens. The grand opening ceremony, at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, will include the distribution of up to $1 million in software grants to local groups. You can vote on the store’s Facebook page to decide where the grants should go. Each vote will count toward a $20 donation. Potential recipients include the Foundation of Fairfax County Public Schools and the Children’s Science Center.
